Tallow Candles
Ingredients
:
3 parts tallow
1 part beeswax
Heat
together just until melted and mixed well. A higher proportion of
beeswax to tallow will make a harder candle which will burn longer.
String candle molds with wick. Tie a small stick on top of the wick
which rests on the top of the mold and holds the wick taut. Fill
the molds with the tallow mixture and set aside to cool. When entirely
firm, clip the knots off the bottom of the mold and draw out the
candles by the wick. Lacking molds, the wick may be dipped repeatedly,
hung from a frame to cool, and redipped until the size suits. Or
various make-shift molds can be devised by resourceful people.
