Cough Lozenges

A valuable lozenge is made as follows:

¼ oz. Blood-root
¼ oz. Licorice
¼ oz Black Cohosh
¼ oz. Tincture of Ipecac
¼ oz. Lobelia
10 grs. Powdered Cayenne
¾ oz. Pulverized Gum Arabic
¾ oz. Starch
3 oz. Pulverized Sugar

Mix all together

If this should be to dry to roll into lozenges, add a thick solution of gum arabic to give it that consistence; if it should be yet too moist at any time, add more sugar. Divide into 320 lozenges.

DOSE: One, 3 to 6 times daily as needed.
