To Ferment Seed

  1. Slice tomato cross the middle.
  2. Squeeze seed and juice into a jar with a lid. If pulp goes in that's fine. If the tomatos weren't real juicy add a little water. About 1/3 - 1/2 half the total volume.
  3. Shake a little and sit in a warm spot until a layer of mold forms across
the top of the liquid. This can take anywhere from 3 days to a couple weeks
    depending on the weather.
  4. At this point add water to the jar and shake vigorously.
  5. Allow seeds to settle to the bottom of the jar and pour off
    liquid/pulp/mold.
  6. Continue steps 4 & 5 till water is clear when poured off.
  7. Dry seeds thoroughly and store.

Fermentation occurs naturally in the wild. The ripe tomatos would fall to the ground and rot there. In spring the seed would germinate. Fermenting should be done on all Nightshade family vegie seeds (tomatos, eggplants, peppers) and all Cucurbits.
